John Makes Whoopee (1929)

Recently added “John Makes Whoopee” is a mysterious film shot at Jantzen Beach Amusement Park, which was considered the ‘Coney Island’ of the west until the land became more valuable than admission sales.

A young farmer leaves behind his patient fiancé to seek adventure and fortune in the big city of Portland, Oregon.   Upon arrival by train, rides and games quickly turn in to a “chance” encounter with a woman of questionable morality.  Showcased by the Oregon Historical Society and preserved from the original 16mm at Color Lab with funding by the National Film Preservation Foundation in 2015.
